For northwest Ohio member libraries, NORWELD strives to provide a variety of workshops to help staffs keep pace with the job skills needed in today's rapidly changing library environment of electronic information sources and high user expectations. Our goal is to sponsor approximately 30-35 workshops each year on a broad spectrum of topics-from library services to improving management skills to technology-related topics. A needs assessment revealing deficiencies in job skills, professional development requirements, and customer trends is conducted through interviews, suggestions on evaluation forms, and formal in-depth surveys. Input into NORWELD's CE plan is welcome at anytime by filling out the survey or suggestion form on this web site.

Registration

NORWELD provides Web registration for all topical and technology workshops. Summaries and registration forms will be posted on the NORWELD Web site at least six weeks before the program date. We occasionally send out flyers as reminders of certain events. We will not reserve a place for you until a Web registration has been received. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

After filling out the Web registration form, you will receive an electronic acknowledgement that the registration was properly submitted. Next, you will receive an e-mail confirmation from a NORWELD staff member that your registration has been accepted and confirmed. If you do not receive a message, please call the NORWELD office.

The deadline for registering online will be 3 working days before the workshop date.

Registration Fees

Registration fees vary depending on workshop costs. With the variety and number of workshops now being offered, the project budget is insufficient to cover Continuing Education costs. Other agencies and consultants offer similar classes at much higher prices. Upon registering, please make arrangements for a check to be made out to the Northwest Special Account and sent to our office:

Northwest Library District
181 1/2 South Main Street
Bowling Green, OH 43402

NORWELD prefers to receive payment prior to the workshop date.

Cancellation and Refunds

NORWELD will refund the registration fee to registrants notifying our office three business days in advance of the workshop. Registrants who do not send payment in advance or do not attend the workshop without the required notification will be billed for the registration fee.

If NORWELD must cancel a program, we will notify the registrant and refund the registration fee.

Cancellation Due to Weather

If the weather or some other emergency prevents us from holding a workshop, NORWELD will try to notify each registrant. If you are unsure of a workshop's cancellation, location, or time, please call the NORWELD office at 800-848-0144.

Special Needs

Please contact the NORWELD office if you have special dietary or access requirements.

Workshop Sites

Most of our technology and computer classes will be held at the NORWELD Technology Training Center located within our office complex at 181 ? South Main Street, Bowling Green. Many of our workshops on library services and issues are held at the NORWELD Learning Center 183 South Main Street. If another northwest Ohio site is chosen, a map will be available through our CE Web page or sent by U.S. Mail.

"My War"

NORWELD, in cooperation with six of its member libraries, has created a new "web exhibit" about World War II that's been excerpted from over 100 oral history interviews conducted in the region over the past year. "My War: Northwest Ohioans Remember World War II" brings local perspective to a subject that is being brought to renewed national prominence by a Ken Burns documentary, "The War."

The web exhibit covers subjects ranging from military training and combat to communications and censorship, life in the military, and the impact of the war on the home front. The clips are searchable by library where the interviews were shot as well as by subject.

The streaming video interviews can be found at www.norweld.lib.oh.us/
ohnarratives/mywar/ and are best viewed over a high speed Internet connection.

Saving your community's Memories

"Saving your Community's Memories" is a 12 minute introduction to the Northwest Ohio Narratives, a program designed by NORWELD to videotape local oral histories in the communities we serve. Since the program's inception in 2006, almost 100 interviews in 10 libraries on topics ranging from World War II to the impact of the railroad have been recorded.
